Rarely do I give a book 5 stars, but The Lies of Locke Lamora is one that has stayed with me despite having read it a few years ago.
Locke Lamora is far from your average hero. In fact, many would argue he's part of the problem. It begins with him and his ragtag band of Gentlemen Bastard brothers in the process of conning a young man out of his fortune. They're foul-mouthed, liars, cheaters and use false identities from a priesthood to swindle money from citizens.
But there's something undoubtedly charming about Locke Lamora and his story. It gives you everything. Shock, laughter, tears. It's not about vanquishing the dark lord, but something much deeper.
